How do I select a Student?
An Area Rep will come to your home to explain the program and provide you with a selection of students. You choose the student that is perfect for your family. You may also view available students on this website.
What does ISE look for in a Host Family?
Most families are middle class families. A family must have the emotional and financial stability to sustain a student for a year. All family members should agree to host and be willing to learn about a new culture.
Do I get Paid to Host?
No, all families are volunteers.
Can the student share a room?
Yes, the student can share a room with a same sex sibling within a reasonable similarity in age.
Does the student have insurance?
Yes, all students are covered by a comprehensive Health and Liability policy while an ISE student.
What does the student expect?
The student expects to be welcomed by a warm loving family who is willing to accept them as a member of their family. The family should be flexible, have a sense of humor and be willing to share cultures.
If I have a problem, what do I have to do?
ISE provides support to all participants through its field Area Representatives, Regional Advisors and Regional Directors. ISE's NY office is also available to assist.
How does the Student get to my home?
Students will arrive at the airport nearest their new American home. The family or Area Rep will meet the student at the airport.
Do the Students speak English?
Yes, students must have enough English to communicate and to participate in everyday life. Occasionally a student may appear to have poor English upon arrival, but usually within a couple of weeks the student's English will improve greatly.
